  WHAT WE DO:

"Enabling Young People"

What’s Up is a free, national telephone counselling service for New Zealanders aged 5 to 18 years that has been available since 22nd September 2001.

The service operates seven days a week from noon to midnight. Paid, trained and closely supervised professional counsellors answer the telephones.

Advanced technology is used to collect non-identifying information on calls, which is analysed and used to advocate for children’s needs.

What’s Up aims to provide early help to children and teach them skills that will help prevent the development of major problems later in their lives.

What’s Up is provided by The Kid’s Help Foundation Trust in association with Barnardos New Zealand. The Trust is a New Zealand registered charity sponsored by Telecom, White Pages® and Child Health Services Trust.

Healthline is a free 24-hour telephone health advice service (0800 611 116) funded by the Ministry of Health. It is a service available for all New Zealanders, from the newborn to the elderly, from either a landline or cellphone.

Healthline registered nurses assess a person's condition and health needs and recommend the best course of action and a time-frame in which to take action. They can also provide general health information and location of services.

The Healthline service now includes Well Child Advice. Specially-trained nurses provide Well Child advice, including parenting advice, child health promotion and education.
The Healthline call centre is staffed by registered nurses who determine the most appropriate level of care for the caller. The nurses do not diagnose or treat health problems over the phone.
